LYRA/ HOOP

Lyra, also known as the aerial hoop, is a circular steel bar that allows for aerial acrobatics while being below, in, or above the apparatus. It can be static or dynamic and is popular with gymnasts and adults. Unlike Sling and Silks, Lyra does not squeeze or move when weight is placed on it. IDA provides chalk for extra grip during class and performances. Students will develop calluses on their hands as they master foundational skills and progress to partnering skills, which involve two aerialists performing on a single lyra.

COMPETITIVE AERIAL

For aerialists seeking an extra challenge, participating in additional performances and classes is essential. In our competition companies, aerialists work together toward a shared goal, creating a strong sense of teamwork and commitment.

Because attendance is highly encouraged—and sometimes mandatory—students benefit from consistent, focused training, which leads to faster progress and stronger skills. Being part of a close-knit team also fosters friendships and a supportive environment, both inside and outside the studio, through regular team bonding activities.

Company members have the exciting opportunity to take center stage as the leads in our end-of-season Spring Show, showcasing their hard work and growth.
